Beyond the Mix Anti-Racism Workshops

A three part program designed to support mixed-heritage families with anti-racism in the family, advocating for your child in school and learning settings and how to talk confidently about race with children. Each session includes real-life scenarios, practical takeaways, and a reading/listening/watching list.

Session 1 - Anti-racism in the family

  • A look at our values and how they guide us and impact the way we navigate the world and how we parent

  • The difference between impact vs intent in conversations about race

  • How do address racism in our family relationships and settings

  • How to challenge problematic language & behaviours from our family and friends

  • Creating our own scripts to manage difficult conversations

Session 2 - How to advocate for your child in learning settings

  • What to look out for when applying for school/settings and questions to ask

  • Recognising bias and inequity in schools

  • How to escalate concerns if your child experiences racism

  • The role of school policies in tackling discrimination

Session 3 - How to talk to your children about race and racism

  • How children understand race at different ages

  • What is racism?

  • Teaching kids to respond to racism with confidence/anti-racism

  • Encouraging pride in their heritage and skin colour
