Our Team

Sarah Lewis-Paul - Project Manager

We discovered a need for Beyond the Mix in the summer of 2021 when we found that there wasn’t an online space available solely for mixed women. This, along with my enjoyment at working alongside two other mixed heritage women, encouraged us to create a space both on and offline.

With Beyond the Mix, I hope to give our community the space to address any issues around identity that they need to. I also want to create a space for younger generations to feel comfortable and confident in being mixed heritage and proud.

I want to give people a space to make new friends and connections where they can be open and honest about who they are.

I will be curating the community events at Beyond the Mix, and will be main point of call. I would love to hear from the community about ideas, projects and events you would like to run, so please feel free to get in contact at sarah@beyondthemix.org

Leanne Lewis - Marketing Manager

I have a Jamaican father and Greek-Cypriot mother, and have lived in Bristol my entire life. I love my heritage, and have proudly celebrated both in different stages of my life. The reasons for wanting to be involved with Beyond the Mix stem from often struggling with my identity growing up- not knowing exactly who I am, or where I fit in.

Working with Beyond the Mix, I hope to create a valued and safe community for mixed heritage women, trans and non binary folk to be able to come together to discuss identity and share ideas. I want future generations of mixed people to feel supported, proud and understanding of their true identity, and hope this platform will give them the space and freedom to do that.

I’m here to share all of the exciting plans with our community. There will be a series of interviews from our community, so if you want to share your voice around your mixed identity, please get in contact at leanne@beyondthemix.org

Laura Lewis-Paul - Development Manager

Being Mixed has been and continues to be a journey of self discovery for me and I want to provide a platform for other people in the Mixed community to have that space.

Since the birth of my daughter I have met lots of other mixed mums which has created a real space for support, acknowledgement and sharing of experiences which I have lacked throughout my childhood.

Moving forward with BtM feels so important as it  is able to offer this space to other mixed heritage communities exploring their identity. Most importantly we want this space to be accessible, so want to curate programs that offer lots of variation and that are affordable.

I will be working behind the scenes to support the development of BTM with partnerships, funding and consultation. Feel free to contact if you are an organisation that wants to work in partnership with us at laura@beyondthemix.org

Caprice Fox - Families Project Manager

I am mixed heritage but am often racialised as Black, this has hugely shaped my identity. My dad hails form Grenada whilst my mum's heritage is a mix of British and Indian descent. In my teenage years, I proudly embraced my mixed race identity but as time passed, I've found a strong connection to my Black heritage.

Becoming a mother intensified my desire for our daughter to fully grasp and embrace her diverse heritage. I want her to be proud to be mixed! My upbringing was in predominantly white schools which resulted in a sense of disconnection which is something I am committed to shielding our daughter from, a sense of community is so important.

When I met Leanne and Sarah from Beyond the Mix I felt a connection straight away and it literally fills me with so much joy to be part of this team! We all have a shared purpose and I can't wait to celebrate the diversity within our community.

As a queer woman, it is of utmost importance to me that we create a space that is genuinely inclusive for all mixed heritage families. I will curate events ensuring that they resonate with families of varying backgrounds and orientations as well as overseeing our social media! Feel free to slide into the DMs - I'm here to answer your questions and I can't wait to make some new connections! Feel free to drop me an email at caprice@beyondthemix.org

Gemma Adams - Non Executive Director

I have a Ghanaian Father and Welsh Mother and grew up in rural South Wales. Where I grew up (being the only family of colour in the whole valley) greatly shaped my formative years where I had no one who looked like me anywhere around me.  Growing up in such a white area affected my confidence and ability to understand my identity.  I would have benefitted so much from having a community like Beyond the Mix and what it offers.

Being asked to be a non-executive director for Beyond the Mix and provide guidance and advice behind the scenes was a huge honour. My professional life has always been people-focused, rooted in arts participation and education, and now I sit in the higher education sector, supporting universities to connect more effectively and ethically with its community.  I hope to bring some of these skills into my work within Beyond The Mix and look forward to seeing it continue to flourish.

Rebecca Scott - Non Excutive Director

Rebecca joined the Beyond the Mix board in 2022, being inspired to help grow a supportive community for mixed heritage women in Bristol through her personal experience of being of English and Jamaican heritage. Rebecca brings to the board 18 years of experience in arts and community where her specific focus has been on youth engagement and music-making. Outside of work, Rebecca is mum to two boys, and she enjoys playing clarinet with the Bristol Reggae Orchestra. Rebecca is excited to support Beyond the Mix as they take the next steps in their organisational journey.
