Sarah - Framing Memories

For someone who really likes looking at photos, I find it really hard to get them up on the wall!

My brother posted some photos of our family for Windrush Day yesterday and I was blown away by the beauty of them - the family resemblances, the feelings they invoke and the way that they capture so much of the essence of the time. The photos are so formal and intentional, quite a contrast to the snaps we are constantly taking on our phones nowadays. For my hundreds of phone photos, I fear that they could live in a cloud forever. One of my best friends made an album for every year once she had kids and my own mum regularly made photo albums that I loved to look at as a child and my own children and nieces love to look at now. So I have enough inspiration, I just can’t seem to get them out of the phone or my memory boxes in the loft.

Because of this, I am really looking forward to the framing workshop we are hosting on Sunday. Now I just need to decide which photo to include; My beautiful Dominican family, the four generations of women in my mum’s family or little me - as a reminder to keep showing up and creating new spaces for all the little mixed girls out there who need to feel seen.

Which picture would you frame if you had to choose one?

If you are free, come along to our workshop on Sunday 29th June, it will be a place to relax and chat with other mixed heritage women and give yourself time to think about those we love who we don’t always get to see.

I’m hoping that this will kick start my gallery wall ❤️
